Assam Gearing Up For Total Lockdown: Hemanta Biswa Sarma
Dr. Hemanta Biswa Sarma, Health Minister of Assam, is in a state of a tizzy. Due to the surge in coronavirus cases, he is considering the idea of re-announcing total lockdown in Guwahati.
As of now, 50,000 samples have gone for testing. Based on the COVID-19 sample test results, the health minister will take a final call.
On June 8, a neighboring state of Assam, Mizoram, had imposed total lockdown. The state extended the lockdown for two more weeks to curb the spread of disease.
As per Dr. Sarma, if the positive cases are of a considerable number out of the 50,000 tests, then he has to impose total shutdown. Other than imposing lockdown, there will be strict measures around the city.
The mortality rate and the number of positive cases are not as many as compared to Delhi, Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, or Gujarat. However, the state has to take all precautions to contain the disease and not let it spread further.
