In a highly anticipated ceremony set to mark the 95th birthday of the esteemed Shri. Bhobesh Saikia, the AIIDESH AWARDS 2023 will be presented, recognizing the exemplary contributions of local figures in fostering growth and excellence in the community. The awards, accompanied by a substantial token of appreciation, aim to acknowledge and encourage outstanding individuals who have significantly impacted the region.
Bhobesh Saikia, a distinguished life member of Axam Xahitya Xabha, also known as the Assam Sahitya Sabha, former Executive Member of Golaghat District Xahitya Xabha, and founder president of APCU (Assam Press Correspondents’ Union), passed away in August 2023. A prominent educationist, social activist, writer, and senior journalist, Saikia made significant contributions to the fields of education, literature, social development, and journalism.
He began his career as a teacher in the education department and later delved into journalism, producing several publications in the Bokahat sub-division of Golaghat district in Assam. His literary works and journalistic contributions reflected his dedication to the promotion of Assamese culture and the dissemination of knowledge.
With a profound involvement in social, cultural, and educational organizations, including APCU and Bokakhat Press Club, Saikia also founded and led various local organizations such as Assam Moina Parijat, Anath Ashram, and many others. His initiatives aimed at fostering social development, cultural preservation, and community welfare.
An addition to his multifaceted contributions, Bhobesh Saikia authored two collections of poems and 15 books, showcasing his literary prowess and intellectual depth. His passing in August 2023 represents a significant loss to the literary, journalistic, and social spheres in Assam. His contributions will be remembered as a lasting legacy in the realms of education, literature, community service, and cultural preservation.
The highlight of the event will be the conferring of the AIIDESH AWARDS 2023 for Best State Journalist to Mr. Mahendranath Hazarika from Dergaon. His unwavering dedication to journalism and tireless efforts in reporting and communicating local news have made him a standout figure in the field.
Another luminary, Mr. Papumoni Hazarika from Chinakan, Bokakhat, will be honored with the AIIDESH Award for Best Young Achiever for Golaghat District. This recognition is a testament to his exceptional achievements and contributions to the community, showcasing the promise of the younger generation.
Both awards will carry not only prestige but also a generous cash prize of Rupees Ten Thousand and Five Hundred (Rs. 10,500), along with a commemorative medal and trophy, symbolizing the deep appreciation for the recipients' significant impact.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Puwati Sahitya Sabha Bhawan in Bokakhat on January 16, 2024, starting from 12:00 pm.
