Meta showcased its prototype for the Orion AR Glasses, offering a preview into its ambitious augmented reality (AR) future.
25 September, 2024 : During the Meta Connect annual event at their headquarters in Menlo Park, California, Meta showcased its prototype for the Orion AR Glasses, offering a preview into its ambitious augmented reality (AR) future. The glasses feature an impressive 70-degree field of view and are designed with advanced spatial computing capabilities.
One standout feature is the wireless compute unit, which powers the high-performance processing needed for AR tasks. Additionally, Meta integrated an EMG (Electromyography) wristband that allows for precise hand and finger tracking, enabling intuitive control and interactions. While Meta has suggested that the device is nearing consumer-ready status, it is still in the prototype phase and won't be sold to customers just yet.
These developments underline Meta’s continued investment in AR as part of its vision for the metaverse, aiming to seamlessly merge physical and digital experiences.
Key Features:
-
Wide View: The Orion glasses offer a large 70-degree field of view, so you can see more digital content around you.
-
Wireless & Comfortable: They are wireless, making them easy to use without the hassle of cords. The slim design ensures they’re comfortable for longer use.
-
Gesture Control: With an EMG wristband, you can control the glasses using tiny movements of your hand and fingers, making navigation super intuitive.
What Can You Do with Orion Glasses?
With these glasses, you can explore digital content while moving around in the real world. Think of playing AR games, viewing virtual workspaces, or following directions that overlay onto your surroundings. These glasses are also key to Meta's vision for the Metaverse, where physical and virtual worlds meet.
Though still in development, the Meta Orion AR Glasses are expected to change how we interact with technology in the future.
