Japan’s Coronavirus Cases Fall Sharply Without Compulsory Measures
Tokyo reported its lowest daily level of new coronavirus cases in more than three weeks, a fresh sign Japan may be succeeding in suppressing the outbreak without compulsory distancing and with limited testing.
The Japanese government confirmed 120 new coronavirus infections on Tuesday, the lowest level since April, as the total number of cases topped 16,000 and the death toll rose by 10 from the previous day to reach 579. The Tokyo metropolitan government reported 58 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, coming in under 100 for the third straight day in a sign that the virus spread may be slowing.
Unless many western countries, Japan hasn't imposed such a lockdown backed with different penalties and fines. Japanese Prime minister Mr. Shinzo Abe has requested people to reduce their social contacts and encourage business activities to reduce hours of its operation by 80%.
