One day, we believe this kind of immersive, augmented reality will become a part of daily life for billions of people.

- Mark Zuckerberg, 2017

The word “metaverse” describes a fully realized digital world that exists beyond the existing physical world we are living with. It was initially introduced by Neal Stephenson in his novel “Snow Crash,” way back in 1992. Further, the concept was explored by Ernest Cline in his novel “Ready Player One.”

The tech billionaire and internet entrepreneur Mr. Mark  Zuckerberg calls the metaverse, where virtual reality serves as a computing platform for living a second life online. He has acquired the exclusive rights to the name “Meta” from a South Dakota bank called Meta Financial Group, USA for $60 million USD ( approximately Rs. 490 crores ) to focus the company on its metaverse endeavors.

The metaverse is the convergence of two ideas that have been around for many years: virtual reality and digital second life. Virtual reality users wear a headset that immerses them in a 3D environment and operates motion-sensing controllers to interact with virtual objects and use a microphone for voice operations and to communicate with others.

The pandemic has paved the successful way   and set the ideal stage for the metaverse to take off. It has picked a general public where social uneasiness is on the ascent and the longing for comfort is at an all-time high. The public has become familiar with being distant from everyone else due to the prolonged periods of isolation that COVID-19 has forced us into. The metaverse is, by design, meant to be used in isolation. You don't require others to truly be present while putting on a headset to venture to the far corners of the planet or hang out at a virtual bar.

In the present era, more than 65% of users worldwide are attached to the internet as compared to only 9.7% in 2003. The technology simply was not where it is today and social media use was less widespread. Many companies didn’t have a social presence in 2003, much less the bandwidth, knowledge, and resources to integrate themselves into this social-forward, complicated digital world.

Enter into the metaverse: a tool that provides emotional connection and convenience without needing to leave your physical space. A place where your next client meeting can be a casual walk on the top of a chilling mountain or your next brainstorming about a pop-up shop can take place right in a busy city gathering. Your ideas are only limited by your imagination.

In the metaverse, consumers can live within the brand instead of being spectators of it. Imagine entering a branded nightclub and experience the virtual space cheering with the avatars thourgh live interactions.

In December of 2021, Disney reported that it petitioned for a patent to make the very first 3D amusement park. Gucci has likewise taken to the virtual world by collaborating with Roblox to deliver a "Gucci Garden," where avatars can wander through various rooms and every guest's life sized mannequin are exhibited.

Similarly the yoga brand  ALO, made an "Alo Sanctuary" where clients could do yoga and reflection in a loosening up tropical setting.  Buyers need idealism. The possibility of a headset taking us from our four walls to a vast expanse of endless possibilities is turning out to be increasingly engaging.  So the idea of a headset taking us to a universe of endless possibilities is becoming more and more appealing.

1 million us dollars = 7.9 crore Indian rupees if one us dollar = 79 Indian rupees.
