Three Rhino Poachers Arrested in Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve’s Biswanath Wildlife Division: Handmade Gun Seized.

In a special operation conducted last night by the Eastern Range, Gamiri, under Biswanath Wildlife Division of Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve, three individuals involved in rhino poaching case number ER/02-2026 were apprehended from Narayanpur in Lakhimpur district. According to a press release issued today from the Director’s office at Bokakhat, the arrested persons had planned to kill a rhino in the Sixth Addition area of Kaziranga National Park.
Based on information obtained from the detainees and a secret tip-off, the forest team recovered and seized a locally made gun barrel without bolt and magazine from Ukhanchuk in Majuli.
Forest department sources further revealed that in connection with this same case, a .303 rifle and 13 rounds of ammunition had earlier been recovered in March this year from Gopaljaroni area near Gohpur, adjacent to Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve.
The three arrested individuals are identified as:
- Kiron Pegu of Ukhanchuk, under Garmur Police Station, Majuli
- Riju Pegu of Sesa village, under Bihpuria Police Station, Lakhimpur
- Amulya Kaman of Dak Chapori, under Gohpur Police Station .
