The 502nd Memorial Day of Birangana Sati Sadhani was celebrated today with day-long programmes at Juria Baratol, Ahugaon in Bokakhat co district , organised by Golaghat District Chutia Students’ Union, Bokakhat Subdivisional Chutia Students’ Union, Bokakhat District Chutia Youth Council, Bokakhat District Chutia Women’s Association, and local villagers.  

The programme began with flag hoisting by Golaghat District Chutia Students’ Union President Papu Saikia. The lamp-lighting at Sati Sadhani’s portrait was done by Adarani Samiti President Dilip Chutia, while floral tributes were offered by District Secretary Manasjyoti Saikia. The memorial offering was performed by Chief Advisor Ritu Saikia. Tree plantation was carried out by Adarani Samiti’s Executive President Prashanta Saikia, former student leader Bipul Gogoi, and elder Sada Bora. Later, under the guidance of Bardewri Pratap Chandra Neog and Majudewri Jatin Saikia, a traditional ritual of Deo Kuber Salita Logowa was held.  

This was followed by drawing and essay competitions among students, and a cultural procession inaugurated by Bokakhat Co-district Magistrate Ankita Baruah. In the afternoon, an open meeting and award ceremony were held at Juria Baratol. The meeting was inaugurated by Atul Bora, President of Asom Gana Parishad and former MLA of Bokakhat constituency. Presided over by District President Papu Saikia, the keynote address was delivered by retired professor Gopikananda Saikia of JDSG College.  

On this occasion, the Golaghat District Chutia Students’ Union conferred the Birangana Sati Sadhani Award on Bokakhat-born Indian women’s cricket team player Uma Chetri. In her absence, her mother Deepa Chetri received the award, which included a memento, citation, portrait of Sati Sadhani, Gamocha, and seleng chadar. Prizes were also distributed to winners of various competitions held during the memorial day.  

The event was attended by retired Principal Dr. Biva Bora of JDSG College, President of Assam State Journalists’ Association Jitu Sharma Rajkhowa, Advisor of All Assam Lekhika Samaroh Suwarna Saikia Bordoloi, Central President of Golaghat District Chutia Students’ Union Mahen Bora, District President Papu Saikia, Central Organising Secretary of AJYCP Nilutpal Khound, Golaghat District President of Assam Tea Tribe Students’ Union Sushil Kalindi, District President of Gorkha Students’ Union Rudra Chetri, President of Bokakhat Sub-divisional Journalists’ Association Bubul Dutta, President of Bokakhat District Koch Rajbongshi Youth Students’ Association Mrinmoy Roy, and Adarani Samiti President Dilip Chutia, among others. The day concluded with a special cultural evening inaugurated by Mahen Bora, President of Assam Chutia Students’ Union, featuring performances by popular singer Bitupan Chutia.  

Meanwhile, another celebration of Birangana Sati Sadhani Day was organised at Sadhani Bhavan premises in Bokakhat town by Bokakhat District Chutia National Council, Assam Chutia Women’s Association (Independent), Bokakhat District Chutia Women’s Association, and Bokakhat District Youth Council.  

The day-long programme began with flag hoisting by District President Atul Hazarika, followed by tree plantation by former Bokakhat Municipal Chairman Jibeshwar Bora. Lamp-lighting at Sati Sadhani’s statue was done by retired teacher Chandraprabha Saikia, while floral tributes were offered by senior woman Subhadra Bora. Competitions included modern creative dance based on Zubeen Garg’s songs and recitation of self-composed poems on Chutia heritage, inaugurated by Executive President Prashanta Saikia.  

In the afternoon, an open meeting was conducted by Subarna Saikia Bordoloi, Advisor of Lekhika Samaroh. Keynote speakers included literary pensioner Dr. Biva Bora, with invited guests such as former MLA Atul Bora, President of All Assam Chutia National Council Bibul Hazarika, General Secretary Debojit Saikia, Nipen Saikia, and President of Puwati Sahitya Sabha Gopikananda Saikia. Prizes were distributed to winners of the competitions held earlier in the day.
